Two Chino Residents Arrested for the Willful Cruelty to a Child


On Wednesday, February 2, 2022, investigators from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, Crimes Against Children (CAC) Detail, conducted an investigation regarding a one-month-old male victim who was admitted to Loma Linda University Medical Center (LLUMC) with severe injuries. Doctors at LLUMC determined the injuries were caused by non-accidental trauma, consistent with child abuse.
Through investigation, detectives determined Sydney Strauss-Cahill and Gabriel Espinoza caused the injuries to the victim. At the conclusion of the investigation, Strauss-Cahill was arrested and detectives authored an arrest warrant for Espinoza.

On Friday, February 11, 2022, Espinoza was arrested and booked into the Central Detention Center. Strauss-Cahill and Espinoza were both held for violation of California Penal Code sections 203 Mayhem and 273a(a) Willfuld Cruelty to a Child, with a bail amount of $500,000.
